Lieberman, Saul
(1898-1983)
   American scholar. He was born in Motol, near Pinsk, Belorussia, and settled in Jerusalem in 1928. In 1931 he was appointed lecturer in Talmud at the Hebrew University. He also taught at the Mizrahi Teachers Seminary, and was dean of the Harry Fischel Institute for Talmudic Research. In 1940 he became professor of Palestinian literature and institutions at the Jewish Theological Seminary where he later served as dean and rector of the rabbinical school. He published studies of Jewish Hellenism, editions of the Tosephta, and works on the Palestinian Talmud.
